Sacramento, Calif. – Today, Governor Gavin Newsom presented his proposed budget for the State of California which includes $68.8 million to support “repairs to existing or new water conveyance projects.” Of note, the proposed budget also includes $232 million for flood control projects which includes the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta region and $14 million for Delta Levees Program Mitigation.

Morgen Snyder, Director of Policy & Programs at Restore the Delta says:

“Funding for declining infrastructure in the Delta is much needed, and we support efforts to fund fixes to those existing pieces of infrastructure. However, we are committed to ensuring this funding is not directed to the damaging Delta Conveyance Project which would devastate Delta tribes, communities and ecosystems.

We must ensure a fair and transparent regulatory pathway for the Bay-Delta Plan rather than the inequitable and deceptive Voluntary Agreements to protect and restore the Delta going forward. Funding and efforts to protect and restore the Delta are a step in the right direction, but we also need strong commitments to protect the future health and vitality of the Delta and the tribes and communities that depend on it.”
