Biography

Prior to joining Restore the Delta, Ivan Senock served as the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer and Cultural Resources Director for the Buena Vista Rancheria of Me-Wuk Indians. Ivan has also served as a representative for several tribal entities, bridging the gap between Indigenous people and greater populations by providing resource protection and outside community education on tribal matters. In his new role at Restore the Delta, Ivan will be co-leading Restore the Delta’s program, restoration, and outreach efforts to protect and enhance the environment for both rural and urban Delta communities, as well as continuing to work with Indigenous communities addressing contemporary issues of cultural practice, historic preservation, and cultural revitalization. Apart from Restore the Delta, Ivan continues to work with and support both Federal and non federally recognized tribes manage, develop, and continue their efforts of landback, self-governance, and economic development. Ivan earned his MA in Cultural Anthropology at California State University, Sacramento. His thesis focused on Indigenous communities, connections, and relations to landscapes in Northern California. In Ivan’s spare time, he enjoys traveling with his family, learning new things, and spending time in nature.
