Except this time, the water grab is at the hands of industrial agriculture.

 Northern California river advocates and tribal groups have been fighting for more than two decades for the removal of four dams on the Klamath River. Their victory late last year set the stage for the removal project to become the largest of its kind in U.S. history. Now is a particularly good time to learn about it, as preparations are already underway for the first dam to be removed starting in June. Here’s why this will be one for the history books.

Fishery council closes commercial and recreational salmon fishing off California Coast this year – Dan Bacher 4/7/23
On Thursday, the Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC) unanimously voted to recommend a full closure of the recreational and commercial fishing season, based on the low abundance estimates and low returns to the rivers. 
It is expected that the National Marine Fisheries Service will follow with regulatory action to enact the closure, effective in mid-May, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW).
