In today’s Stocktonia News article, Scott Linesburgh details the potential consequences of a levee failure that could impact residents near Discovery Bay and Victoria Island. At this time, San Joaquin County is taking emergency measures such as, “adding temporary protective barriers” and declaring a state of emergency.
Sierra Bucia, Director of the San Joaquin County Office of Emergency Services, emphasized that “Public safety is a top priority for the county. By proclaiming a local emergency, the County is granted greater authority to facilitate response operations and issue protective orders as needed to ensure the safety of our community.”
Local authorities, alongside engineering firms from Sacramento, are working to stabilize the area and engage with community members on emergency protocols. “KSN Inc. continues to work alongside the County of San Joaquin and the Department of Water Resources to prevent the risk of this levee failure,” said Christopher Neudeck, principal engineer and incident commander at KSN Inc. With the County’s support, we’re able to request additional state and federal assistance for mitigation and technical response efforts.”
