Delta Farmer Opportunities

The Metropolitan Water District Webb Tract RFP: Metropolitan Water District (MET) is offering farmers an opportunity to transform Webb Tract. Learn about leasing opportunities for rice farming on surplus land in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. MET will be hosting a Webb Tract Hybrid Public Hybrid Meeting Wed., July 10, 2024 @ 11 AM at Big Break Visitor Center in Oakley, or via Zoom. For more information click the link.

The Delta Rice Conversion Incentive Program: The Delta Rice Conversion Incentive Program, implemented by The Nature Conservancy and the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Conservancy, offers financial incentives to farmers for converting fields to bird-friendly rice cultivation. This initiative aims to reduce soil subsidence, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and enhance habitats for migratory birds. Farmers can receive up to $800 per acre for five-year contracts or $400 per acre for three-year contracts. Applications are due by July 10, 2024, and successful applicants will be notified by July 20, 2024. If you’re interested, here is the application link!

Drone Technology in Agriculture Survey for Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Farmers: Restore the Delta is developing a drone program for Delta farmers! Many farmers have expressed concern that the next generation of farmers and workers won’t be returning and that the labor rate is dropping every year. To help with that effort, we want to bring a new career opportunity in Delta agriculture to the next generation of agriculture workers, as well as another tool for farmers to assist them in their day-to-day work. In order to truly understand how farmers view drone technology and how they envision using it in their own businesses, we are conducting a survey. For Delta farmers, please fill out the survey and let us know what you think!
