Dear Friends,
Please send a thank you letter, e-mail, tweet, and/or Facebook comment to Senator Barbara Boxer for taking a stand against harmful and secret negotiations involving California Water issues and drought. We need to let our legislators know when they make the right move. Below is our thank you letter to Senator Boxer, feel free to take the letter and modify it for your use.
Thank you for taking a stand against harmful and secret negotiations involving California’s water issues and drought! On behalf of the tens of thousands of Restore the Delta members, I want to express my sincere gratitude to you for taking a lead on strengthening transparency and restoring faith in leadership on California water issues in Congress.
We agree with you that the process of writing and approving regulations and guidelines must be kept transparent in order to lead to a solution that is good for the entire state, including Northern and Southern California. All fifty-eight counties need to be at the drought negotiation table because putting west side San Joaquin Valley irrigators at the front of the water line, and ignoring state water rights in addition to clean water and fishery protections, is not a solution.
Our organization and communities that we work with are deeply concerned that secret legislation and negotiations could negate important environmental protections and result in harming our municipalities, and tourist, agricultural, and fishing economies that all depend on a healthy San Francisco Bay-Delta estuary.
We are grateful for your willingness to champion a shared water solution for all, and we look forward to working with you and supporting you in these efforts.
