Currently, Sara, our Sustainable Agriculture and Land Manager, is working on informative handbooks for the Delta region and farmers.
The Rice Farming Handbook provides comprehensive insights into the future of rice cultivation, addressing crucial challenges such as subsidence, waterfowl habitat nurturing, profitability, and carbon credits. We’re on a mission to provide accessible, easy-to-understand resources to every farmer who dreams of embracing the rice cultivation approach with meticulously crafting this handbook to empower farmers in the Delta.
COMING SOON: The Wetland Restoration Handbook will serve as a valuable resource for farmers transitioning into wetland restoration, offering practical guidance and insights. For farmers in the Delta region, embarking on the journey of wetland restoration and field conversion is a significant step towards environmental stewardship. However, it can be a complex and challenging path. That’s where our Wetland Restoration Handbook comes in. This handbook serves as Restore the Delta’s information hub for farmers who are exploring the possibilities of conversion. We’ve carefully curated a list of resources and created an easy-to-read handbook to ensure that the transition to wetland restoration is not just achievable, but also easily digestible.
In the Workforce Pathways Project, Restore the Delta connects farmers embracing sustainability with interns and community members, creating higher-paying job opportunities, and fostering community connections. We believe in the power of collaboration and want to bridge the gap in the labor force by connecting farmers who are embracing sustainable practices with a dynamic labor pool, eager interns, and dedicated community members. It is more than just a job; it is about connecting with the heart of the community. Our project seeks to create meaningful connections between community members and local farmers who are driving positive change. By connecting them with capable individuals, we not only enhance the farming experience but also help the community thrive.
At Restore the Delta, we are committed to fostering growth, innovation, and a brighter future for our community. We are introducing our groundbreaking initiative – the Drone Training Program for the Delta. This program is on track to open doors to high-demand, high-paying jobs, propelling the region toward innovation and sustainability. From flood monitoring to precision farming (fertilization and pest detection) and Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) monitoring, drones have an essential role to play in our region.
